Iron and Vitamin B Complex Supplements—Make Your Own

Iron is a trace mineral, meaning it is required in very small amounts by the body. Only a small fraction of the body's iron is gained or lost each day. Most of the iron in the body is recycled when old red blood cells are taken out of circulation.

However all minerals, including iron, are only absorbed and utilized if there is the correct combination of natural fats (Vitamins A, D and E, essential fatty acids like omega 3, and saturated fats like unrefined coconut, butter, lard, etc.) are consumed—read about good fats and bad fats in these articles Fats & Oils.

Two Types of Iron

  • Heme iron found only in meat, fish, dairy, and poultry, is readily absorbed and utilized by the body.
  • Non-heme iron found in carbs (fruits, vegetables, dried beans, nuts, and grain products) is not easily absorbed or utilized by the body.

Dessicated beef liver tablets are a good source of iron but again the combination of natural fats described above are necessary for its absorption.

One of the best foods sources of iron and B vitamins is liver, particularly beef and calves liver. If you are anemic you may be consuming enough iron but you are not consuming the correct combination of natural fats needed for its absorption as described above.

Make Your Own Iron Supplements From Raw Liver – Two Basic Methods

To substitute liver for taking Vitamin B Complex take the equivalent of 4 ounces of liver three times a week.

  1. Freeze Liver & Grate It: Freeze liver for 14 days in large chunks for fourteen days to ensure the elimination of pathogens and parasites IF you are concerned about them. You can then grate the liver on the small holes of a grater and add it to soup, broths, mashed vegetables, etc. to take it. A teaspoon or two of grated raw liver can be added to baby's egg yolk or mashed vegetables.
  2. Make Pea–Sized Liver Pills: Freeze the liver enough so it is easier to cut, and then cut it up into pea–sized pieces and freeze them. Swallow them like vitamin pills.

To Reduce the Strong Flavor

You can soak liver chunks in lemon juice before freezing them to reduce the strong flavor.

Take Liver with Complete Meals

Always take liver with complete meals that contain animal protein and natural fats like butter, unrefined coconut oil, lard, etc.—read about good fats and bad fats in these articles Fats & Oils.
